About Eta Northeast Women's Network
Eta Northeast Women's Network, founded in 2019, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the social and economic empowerment of women from North East India. With over 4000 women members, mostly from Manipur, Eta has initiated various programs and activities to promote women's rights, health, entrepreneurship, and gender equality.
Eta initiated since 2019 have so far focused on:
- Promoting women's rights and health awareness
- Encouraging entrepreneurship and independence among women
- Advocating for gender equality and women's representation
- Providing relief and rehabilitation support to marginalized communities
Skilling and Livelihood Program
In response to the ongoing crisis in Manipur, Eta has launched a comprehensive skill training and livelihood assistance program at 16 relief camps. The program aims to provide displaced women with skills training, seed capital, and market connections to initiate a sustainable livelihood cycle. So far Eta has distributed 45 looms and 19 sewing machines, amongst which 20 looms was sponsored by DC Bishnupur District.
Some key activities include:
- Provision of looms, yarn, and sewing machines to displaced persons
- Training and seed capital/materials for income-generating activities such as candle making, iron basket making, and agarbati making
- Marketing support for products made by beneficiaries, including international marketing through Manipuri diaspora networks under the initiative of Eta's chairperson Sophia Rajkumari.
